    My Resignation

    Dear UCA members,

I have formally resigned from the UCA Board of Directors.  There are many reasons for that but mainly it boils down to time commitment.  Over the past year or so, the time needed to do what is required to get results posted and handle rider issues has tripled.  The main reason for this is some of the responsibilities that previously fell onto the shoulders of promoters has been shifted to me.  Each week I get results from promoters riddled with errors, misspellings, omissions and duplicates.  I post the results as given to me and it takes the rest of the week, working with the riders, promoters and officials to get things straight.  Each error can create a chain reaction in the database.  So I’m dealing with those problems, long after the race is over.  Along with the results, some promoters have shifted the “promoting” job to the UCA as well. They give us little information and I spend a lot of time trying to find out information to try and get it to the racers.  You probably have noticed the large decrease in race websites over the past year or so.  Now, some promoters demand that we pick up that slack. Again, I just don’t have the time to do that.

With the workload increasing, my personal life has seen the hours I have available to the UCA decrease.  Trying to balance a family with 2 kids, a new job that requires me to manage 200 people and 9 lodging properties, training 10-14 hours a week, and trying to move and sell a house, has just been too much.

I tried to work with the promoters over the past few weeks to try and shift some of that burden back to them.  The majority has been very accommodating.  But there are some that continue to believe it is my job to clean up their results and promote their events.

I love bike racing.  I have raced bikes for 23 of my 37 years.  I’ve enjoyed the time spent on the Board of Directors. I have been very outspoken as a director and I certainly have my critics.  I challenge those critics to contact James Ferguson to become an interim director.

I will continue to be a part of the Utah cycling community and I thank you for the confidence you had in me to put me on the Board.

    See you at the races!
